1. 1969 Ford Mustang E

One of the earliest examples of an unpopular Mustang is the 1969 Ford Mustang E. All the Mustang models up to that year had focused on rapid speeds and powerful engines. But Ford took a different approach with the 1969 model and created a design centered around an environmentally friendly and economical car. Overall, designers wanted this Mustang to be more fuel-efficient instead of high-powered.

Sadly, this design idea didn’t deliver the results the company expected. Buyers were disappointed with its limited horsepower and lack of an air conditioner.

Ultimately, Ford produced only 50 units and then discontinued the model. Since then, the 1969 Ford Mustang E has been regarded as one of the worst Mustang models in the car’s history.

2. 1974 Ford Mustang Mach 1

• Brake failure: This recall warned about the brakes working incorrectly, a dangerous feature for drivers. For some drivers, the car would move forward even when they pressed the brake pedal. The NHTSA recall reported that the defect affected 434,000 vehicles.

These malfunctions make the 1998 Mustang one of the most famous bad Mustang models.

5. 2011 Ford Mustang

The 2011 Ford Mustang is another least-favorite model. It featured a 5.0-liter V8 engine and various other upgrades, including Bluetooth capabilities. However, it also had significant safety issues. Drivers complained of poor engine performance, and the car’s airbag reportedly exploded in several instances.

The NHTSA sent out multiple recalls for this model, many addressing the exploding airbag. As the bag combusted, it could release metal fragments and shrapnel. If these pieces hit drivers and passengers, it could result in severe injury. Drivers also reported issues with the power train and electrical system. 6. 2012 Ford Mustang
