C6 Chevrolet Corvette Cold Air Intakes

C6 Corvette Cold Air Intake

Sixth-generation (C6) Corvettes marked a significant departure from previous generations. Chevrolet replaced the signature pop-up headlights with exposed headlights, which had been retired since their last use in 1962. This new, more aggressive headlight style — combined with a larger wheelbase, shorter body and sculpted exterior features — gave C6 Corvettes an all-new look for the 21st century.

Chevrolet produced C6 Corvettes from 2005 to 2013 and featured significant performance upgrades. The series had various engine configurations with various levels of power with fast shifting for hot rod-style performance.

To get the most power out of your C6 Corvette, you need a high-quality cold air intake. At Top Flight Automotive, we sell cold air intake systems that help boost horsepower and take your ride to an all-new level.

5 Benefits of a C6 Cold Air Intake

A cold air intake system helps your Corvette run more efficiently. These units usually feature a connected pipe, hose, clamps and air filter to bring cold air into the engine, increasing its power. A properly functioning cold air intake can help your C6 Corvette in several ways:

1. More Horsepower

Cold air burns fuel more efficiently than hot air. By getting more cold air to the engine, your cold air intake can increase horsepower.

2. Faster Acceleration

A cold air intake system improves your Corvette’s responsiveness. You can reach your desired speed at a much faster rate when more cold air gets to the engine.

3. Improved Gas Mileage

Internal combustion engines need oxygen to burn fuel — the less oxygen in the engine, the more fuel it consumes. Cold air intakes provide the perfect air-to-fuel ratio for better gas mileage.

4. Better Airflow

A cold air intake system eliminates the need for an air filter box. Instead, the unit uses intake tubes, which allow for an uninterrupted airflow to the engine that helps it work more efficiently.

5. Enhanced Engine Sound

If you love the sound of a roaring engine, you’ll love the effects of a cold air intake. The more air that gets in your engine, the more robust it sounds. The intense airflow from a cold air intake produces a throaty, growl-like noise that many sports car owners love.

3 Signs It’s Time to Replace Your C6’s Cold Air Intake

All C6 Corvettes come with a restrictive factory cold air intake system that become clogged, dirty or damaged over time. A failing cold air intake system can cause numerous performance problems. If you notice any of the following signs, it may be time to replace your C6’s cold air intake.

1. Poor Engine Performance

When the filter on your cold air intake gets clogged or dirty, it reduces engine power, acceleration and fuel efficiency. Severe clogs can even make it difficult to get your Corvette started.

2. High or Surging Idle

A high or surging idle could signal a vacuum leak. Many cold air intakes have vacuum ports to accommodate the original vacuum system. If these ports break or the hoses come loose, it will cause a vacuum leak that leads to a high idle.

3. Illuminated Check Engine Light

When the sensors installed on the intake detect problems, they set off your Corvette’s check engine light. Vacuum leaks and faulty sensors are some of the most common triggers for your check engine light.

Evolution of C6 Corvette Engine Performance

Over the C6’s eight-year production span, numerous engine configurations were introduced. Chevrolet released the C6 series in 2005 with an L2 engine, increasing its output to 400 horsepower. In 2006, the Z06 model returned with an all-new, ultrapowerful LS7 engine. The LS7 produced 505 horsepower, thanks in part to a lower-restriction air intake system.

In 2008, Corvette coupe and convertible models featured an LS3 engine producing 430 horsepower. The ZR1 variant followed in 2009 with a supercharged LS9 engine rated at 638 horsepower. The ZR1 was the fastest car at the time of its release, reaching top speeds of 205 mph.

Chevrolet came out with the Corvette Grand Sport in 2010. This model featured an LS3 engine, which became the standard in subsequent C6 model years. The exception came in 2013 when Chevrolet released the 427 convertible collector edition with an LS7 engine.
